Bridesmaid dress for wedding dress

Question:

I am not really having THAT formal of a wedding and I am lookin to save some money so i thought about buying a bridesmaid dress in white and wear it for my wedding gown. Only serious comments please! Thank you, Michelle

Response:

This is a very reasonable and practical idea.  You’ll also save a lot of money. Our wedding was not very formal (Sunday afternoon on a yacht), and this is was what I thought I would be doing.  I happened to find a wedding dress in a bridal shop that was very plain, so I used that.  It had some beading on the top but the bottom was just plain shear chiffon over satin, no train, no crinoline, no poof. Many manufacturers have a line of what they call "informals" which are very toned down wedding gowns that are usually simple sheaths with some embellishments, so you might keep your eye out for something like that.

Or there are some simple sew-on lace bodice overlays that are pre-beaded starting from about $10.  These could be easily sewn onto any suitable prom or bridesmaid dress to make it both fancy and totally unique. Good luck G

My sister had a ball dress for her wedding, not even from the bridal section at all, and she looked stunning. It was the perfect dress for her. So, I’d say, go for it. Find a dress you like, and it doesn’t matter what the shop thought it should be for :) — Kirsten Procter                                                    ghoti http://www.mono.org, http://www.snowplains.org and http://www.harem.org
