Alternative to David's Bridal
Question:
Thanks! They have a small selection but very good prices and items are refundable. I’ll take it into consideration. Karen

That makes you wonder how many times they got stiffed because the bride or bridesmaids ordered dresses then went somewhere else "just to look" and found something they liked better so they never went back to pick up and pay for the first dresses. Most businesses don’t make arbitrary rules to annoy customers. Most of the time there’s a good reason. gloria p

has anyone seen bridal gowns in petite sizes at any store? Every store I go to says I’ll have to pay $300+ in alterations and they will "remake" the gown for me in a petite size. How dumb! Any sugggestions?

My daughter, who is barely 5 feet tall and weighs about 98 pounds, got her dress at a Jessica McClintock outlet. It needed no alterations and only cost $100. Debbie – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –

I just bought all my girls dresses from Davids Bridal and my gown as well and i was VERY happy with the service of the Consultant that was assigned to me. The only thing that I had a problem with was that they would not let me JUST PUT a down payment down on the dress and then pay the rest in FULL when I came for my fitting… they made us puchase all the gowns then ( the bridesmaids had to orders theirs THEN and pay for them or the order would be sent out until they payed the full amount. Other then that the dress selection was OUTSTANDINGLY BEAUTIFUL service GREAT and it was an all around great experience. Michelle

Thanks for the tip on JC Penney’s. My girlfriend got her dress at one of their outlets 12 years ago. I used your link and found several dresses that fit what I was looking for. I especially liked the prices. Chris

You can use the net to request the catalog, I think. Or at least find stuff online. http://www.jcpenney.net/guide/reorder/dress/dress/index.html I got my under-wedding-dress slip from Penney’s and was happy with it. — aMAZon "It’s never too late to have a happy childhood."

Actually The JC Penny’s arround here doesn’t sell wedding gowns anymore, but I’ve seen prom dresses that suspiciously look like wedding gowns. (remember you can order the gown in white even if the catalog has a pic of a blue dress or whatever color in it) Niki,

This will post in the wrong position in the thread… Penney’s does indeed still make wedding and bride’s maid dresses (at least as of this spring!). I bought my wedding dress in March at J.C. Penney. It’s the "A" view here: <http://www.jcpenney.net/guide/reorder/dress/dress/coctai21.htm>. It was ready in three weeks from the day I ordered it. There was some confusion in my local Penney’s about where the "Special Occasion" catalog was kept. It turned out that it had originally been in the bridal registry department, later moved to ladies dresses. So, you might try asking in a couple of departments before you give up. The only problem with ordering from Penney’s is that it is hard to get to try anything on. I tried one in the wrong size that had made it to the JC Penney outlet store in Tempe Arizona, but it was just luck that I found one. I was worried that I would order the wrong size since I couldn’t try on the correct size. They have a weird return policy that seems to be different in each individual store. At the store I used, it would have cost a 25% restocking fee if I’d had to return it for a different size. A sales lady at a different store claimed that I could buy the dress in two sizes and return the one that didn’t fit for no fee. I was given the dress in a very flimsy plastic bag, like you get from the drycleaners, rather than one of those nice, heavy, white ones that bridal shops use. I managed to order the dress during a "candy bar sale", which involves getting a coupon for an unknown percentage off store wide. They accepted the coupon, even for a special order, so it might be worthwhile to try to time an order to a good sale. Sandy

I don’t believe Penny’s sells wedding dresses anymore… at least that’s the story *I* got from them when I tried to request the bridal catalog. Was it recently that you got yours? I’d love to see what they have.

I got my wedding gown at JCPenney and was happy with that (I refused to spend more than $300), have you considered looking for bridesmaids dresses there?
Response:
You could also choose a color (with a fabric swatch) and have each girl find a dress in that color. I did that as did a friend of mine and it worked beautifully. We had happy BM’s that were in dresses that they liked that pretty much matched. — Melissa (in Los Angeles)
